(Intro)
She was just a girl
just an innocent girl
with an innocent smile that could warm the world
lived alone with her father in a little home

when the stars came out
and day came to an end
daddy tucked his daughter all safely in
he flashed a grin
that's when the evil begins

(Verse 1)
He threw back the covers
scared her half to death
cause the look on his face must've been insane

said daddy,
why'd you wake me up?
it's simple dear girl
I wanna play a game

grabbed her by the arm
pulled off the nighty
this was more than a game
that was more than likely

asked daddy,
why are you hurting me?
he didn't say a word
he carried on silently

she felt confused
angry and abused
never in her life had she been betrayed

worse, it's her father
the person who taught her all she knew
felt like dying right where she laid

daddy said,
if it makes you feel better
I can soothe your little mind with a
little tune

a little song I learned long ago
and I think it was called
flowers in June

(Chorus)
As the halo wrapped around her head grew more and more so dim
and the purity that she once had is shadowed by the sin
her depression grows and no one knows if she can find a light
have you ever seen such a horrible sight?

and it started on that night

(Verse 2)
Time went on
years came and gone
and the girl seemed aged beyond her years

only in her teens
but it really seems
that she aged a single day for every tear

nightmare never ended
daddy never stopped
and she never found a shoulder to ever cry

nowhere to run
nowhere to hide
she only felt at piece when she was high

cocaine
mary jane
tap a vein
she didn't care how far the fall

as long as she could find the peace
to avoid her thoughts to
hastily end it all

but no matter what drug she took
she could never forget that haunting tune

still made her sick to her stomach
even when she heard the words
flowers in June

(Chorus)
As the halo wrapped around her head grew more and more so dim
and the purity that she once had is shadowed by the sin
her depression grows and no one knows if she can find a light
have you ever seen such a horrible sight?

and it started on that night

(Break)
Even the best of us all slip
(We all slip, we all slip)

And angel wings ain't hard to clip
(hard to clip, hard to clip)

innocence so swiftly ripped
(swiftly ripped, swiftly ripped)

another sob escapes her lips

(Verse 3)
Fast forward
more years have passed
and that once little girl is nearly grown

and her daddy
has now remarried
to a woman that's got a girl of her own

she overheard her daddy say to the girl
let me teach you this one little tune

she stood up
anger in her face
and silenced him before he could ever say
flowers in June

(Chorus)
As the halo wrapped around her head grew more and more so dim
and the purity that she once had is shadowed by the sin
her depression grows and no one knows if she can find a light
have you ever seen such a horrible sight?

As the halo wrapped around her head grew more and more so dim
and the purity that she once had is shadowed by the sin
her depression grows and no one knows if she can find a light
have you ever seen such a horrible sight?

and it started on that night
Most of my songs involve dark subject matter and this was a topic I hadn't yet touched on. I like my lyrical progression with this song but my only fear with it is that it's too enjoyably catchy for the topic it deals with.

Beautifully well done. Rhythm and rhyme is great, and the story is extremely well told. Kind of like a folk song that's had centuries to be perfected.
